What's the difference between a professional designer's creations and your own
graphical creations? If you use the same colors, fonts, type treatments, and royalty-free
photos, what makes the real difference? Often it is the subtle elements in the background of
the image that give a graphic a unique look and feel and help titles and photo elements
literally pop off the page.
Over the years I have moved away from hiring graphical artists to designing
my own graphics. Even though I have learned over time to do a pretty good job, I've noticed
something is lacking. And that something is an abstract background image. Don't believe me.
Consider these two pictures of the same product image but one uses a solid color for the box
and other uses an abstract background.
